Diane Abbott MP

As one might expect, the white supremacist groups are crying for blood regarding the stupid comments tweeted by Diane Abbott. If you missed it she tweeted 'White people love 'Divide and rule' We should not play their game.'

What annoys me is that Abbott has tried to defend the indefensible. In an interview, (shown above) that was clearly uncomfortable for her, she said. "Some people have interpreted it maliciously." (For some people insert racists. Diane's defence usually labels critics with this tag.) She claims she was referring in the tweet to 19th Century colonialism. If you read the thread of the tweet, this is not true. During the interview she got a call from Ed Milliband who was hopefully trying to show some leadership and tell her to apologise.

Here is Diane, looking very uncomfortable, being questioned by Andrew Neil regarding more stupid comments.

There are calls for the police to get involved in this. I have no doubt they would be champing at the bit to do so if the circumstances were different. Arguably the police could be looking at investigating the statement under Sections 17 to 29 of the Public Order Act 1986.

It now appears that Ed has given her a dressing down and told her to apologise. It is a pity she did not do this immediately. She has now issued a statement saying “I understand people have interpreted my comments as making generalisations about white people. I do not believe in doing that. I apologise for any offence caused.” I hope that is the end of the matter now and that the police do not become embroiled in investigating these stupid remarks.

Despite the fact that the police would positively jump from a great height upon me or anybody else for making racist remarks? Hmmmmmm. One law for some?

  3. Dickiebo - that is my point. I do think that overt racist abuse/incitement should be prosecuted. The police should not be interfering in petty cases where freedom of speech is being eroded. Diane Abbott's stupid tweet should be no business of the police. She is an MP and it should be up to voters and her party to deal with her stupidity.
I agree that if she had been white and made a stupid remark about black people it is more likely that the police would intervene. This is because senior leaders in the police are obsessed with diversity and trying to police freedom of speech in that regard. This is largely driven by their next promotion. Being able to show examples of persecuting anyone who fails the police senior officer diversity agenda is mandatory for anyone seeking promotion.
You don't want Emma West prosecuted so let's leave Diane Abbot alone. Incidentally, I totally disagree with you regarding West. Her behaviour was disgraceful and she is fortunate those present were restrained. I am disappointed that you are peddling poison from the BNP. A new low for your site.

  4. I agree with most of what you say but.....
I DO believe that West should be prosecuted - a clear case IMHO where a prosecution is justified. I do NOT agree with the way that she was imprisoned over Xmas for the offence committed.

    Says it all, doesn't it?

So, because the BNP say something, it is poison, is it? That is a very reasonable argument for this blog to use in lieu of the truth!

  6. Why does your blog jump half way down the page when its loading? I have to scroll back up to the top every time, even to get at the comments. This is the only blog I peruse that does this.

As for that champagne Socialist-she should be interviewed as often as possible as she is so stupid she can't help herself but constantly digging greater holes.

  11. What we find boring is written in our genes but I have confidence in your tolerance of long sessions of radiator duty, Jaded.

On the other hand, you may experience the onset of 'Getting boring now' after the first sentence of Hugo's preface to Les Misérables.
